NFU-O Organic Education Fund

The Organic Education Fund provides NFU-O farmers with financial support for their costs incurred while seeking educational resources to begin, or continue, transitioning to organic farming practices. This fund reimburses producers for their paid organic education costs up to $500 maximum. 

 

Who is eligible?

This program is for NFU-O farmers, in good standing, interested in transitioning to certified organic practices on their farms or for farmers already certified organic and who are increasing their organic acreage or diversifying their organic production.

 

Is Organic Certification required to participate?

No. Farmers who are interested in pursuing organic certification are welcome to apply.

 

What costs are reimbursable?

Eligible costs include: Handbooks, guides, manuals, workshops, courses, webinars, field days, and other training opportunities, or a combination of these things.

Ineligible costs include: Transitional certification inspections, application fees, inspection costs, equipment, tools, input materials (fertilizer, etc) , and seeds.

 

What is the maximum reimbursement amount?

The maximum reimbursement amount is $500. You will be asked to provide a receipt/proof of purchase to receive reimbursement.

Please note: If the organic education training/resource you would like to pursue is above the maximum amount, you will be reimbursed for $500 and will be expected to cover the remaining amount.

All successful applicants will be notified by email that their request for funds has been approved.

All farmers who receive funding will be asked to complete a final survey, after receiving their organic education, to reflect on their learning experience & share details of the changes they’ve implemented on their farms.
