Local 345 (Durham, Peterborough, Victoria) is offering some monetary support for farms/farmers impacted by the destructive storm that blew through the region on Saturday, May 21st & Sunday, May 22nd, 2022.
Saturday afternoon’s weather event is being called a “derecho,” a widespread straight-line wind storm associated with a fast-moving group of severe thunderstorms that can cause hurricanic or tornadic-force winds, as well as actual tornadoes. Environment Canada estimates winds reached 132 kilometres per hour in some areas. It is one of the most destructive and deadly wind events in Canada’s history, according to The Weather Network.
