Strong Communities. Sound Policies. Sustainable Farms.

The NFU-O works to educate and advocate for the interests and needs of all farmers, ensuring a vibrant and sustainable agricultural future for the province.

Our Vision

Our vision is for small- and medium-sized farms to be the primary producers in Ontario, and for agriculture to enrich soils, create biodiverse natural ecosystems, support climate resilient, financially-viable farms, and provide local communities with healthy, safe food and farm products.

Our Mission

To develop and advance economic, social, environmental, health and wellness policies for farmers through collective actions that promote food sovereignty, sustainability, and local agricultural systems.

Our Commitments

NFU-O is the only accredited farm organization that is committed to:

  • ensuring family farms are the primary unit of food production;
  • promoting environmentally-safe farming practices;
  • giving farm women equal voice in shaping farm policy;
  • working for fair food prices for both farmers and consumers;
  • involving, educating and empowering rural youth for a better future;
  • building healthy, vibrant rural communities; and
  • ensuring an adequate supply of safe, nutritious food for Canadians.

Governance

The NFU-O is governed by a Board of Directors, elected by the members, to speak on behalf of its members. The NFU-O Board is elected at our Annual General Meeting (AGM) in March.

The NFU-O is organized into Locals, representing the members in particular geographic areas in Ontario. Each Local has its own Executive, elected at their AGM. Locals carry out the work of the NFU-O and respond to the needs, interests and concerns of the membership in their area.

The NFU-O is affiliated with the National Farmers Union (NFU), which is also governed by an elected Board of Directors composed of farmers from coast to coast. The NFU-O has representatives who sit on the NFU board to represent the interests of Ontario farm members at the federal level.

By-Laws

The NFU-O By-Laws establish a clear framework of rules and guidelines that govern the operations of the NFU-O, ensuring transparency, fairness, and accountability in our collective efforts to support sustainable farming in Ontario.
