Guest Speaker: Fionna Tough, Canadian Biotechnology Action Network
The largest seed company in the world - Bayer - is planning to develop genetically modified fruits and vegetables, starting with gene-edited salad greens. Bayer plans to sell gene-edited mustard green seeds to home gardeners and market gardeners (www.cban.ca/GMOsalad). But these gene-edited seeds will not be assessed for safety by Health Canada or the CFIA and can be put on the market, unlabelled, without notifying the government or farmers. Join the Canadian Biotechnology Action Network to discuss the implications and how we can take on the challenge of unregulated gene-edited seeds.
